I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Project Description
Implementing a fully integrated, global credit risk solution for Trading & Supply, creating a single centralised system for managing credit risk across all regions.
This solution will enhance global exposure monitoring, improve credit line utilisation, and enable rapid response during high risk or unexpected market events by providing consolidated exposure and collateral visibility.
The program will drive significant operational efficiencies through system enhancements, standardised processes, and automation—supporting an estimated efficiency gain of up to 50 FTEs and preventing additional staffing growth across hubs and SBOs. It will also improve credit functional performance, reduce cycle times, enhance decision making, and strengthen analytics through accurate, timely data and improved counterparty segmentation.
The solution introduces enhanced end to end credit risk workflows across exposure management, collateral, underwriting, contract management, and margining. Key capabilities include:
