Role – Project Quality Engineer
Location – UK / Travel Across Multiple Project Sites Required
Contract Length – 12 Months
IR35 Status – Outside IR35
Mint Selection are partnered with a leading organisation within the energy sector to recruit an experienced Project Quality Engineer to support the delivery of major UK battery energy storage projects.
The position will provide client-side quality assurance throughout construction, commissioning, and handover. A key focus will be ensuring site inspections, testing, and defects processes are operating effectively, with issues identified, recorded, and closed out against the required quality standards.
Reporting to the QA/QC Manager, you will review contractor Inspection and Test Plans, conduct site quality audits, manage non-conformances, and verify that quality records are progressively assembled to support a timely handover to Operations.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced quality professional with strong site inspection, defects management, and site acceptance testing experience to support significant UK energy infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and approve contractor Inspection and Test Plans on behalf of the client, identifying witness and hold points and attending or reviewing the associated inspections.
- Verify that inspections and tests are completed and recorded in accordance with approved plans, maintaining an accurate overview of project inspection status.
- Assure that site inspection and defects processes are operating effectively, tracking outstanding defects and verifying close-out.
- Carry out site quality inspections and walkdowns, reporting findings and following corrective actions through to completion.
- Plan and conduct site quality audits covering contractors, subcontractors, and the Principal Contractor where applicable.
- Audit compliance with approved Project Quality Management Plans, Inspection and Test Plans, method statements, and quality record requirements.
- Raise and manage non-conformance reports, supporting containment, root cause analysis, and corrective actions, and verifying their effectiveness.
- Maintain the project NCR register and report recurring issues and quality trends to the QA/QC Manager and project teams.
- Review contractor quality plans, the quality aspects of method statements, personnel competence, and equipment calibration records.
- Verify receipt inspections, identification, traceability, storage, and preservation of materials and equipment, including BESS, power conversion systems, and HV plant.
- Lead or attend contractor quality meetings, communicating clear expectations for quality standards and delivery.
- Support site acceptance testing and pre-energisation inspections, verifying that the required inspection and test evidence is available.
- Verify the progressive assembly of handover packs, lifetime quality records, punch lists, and as-built documentation through the completions process.

- A minimum of five years’ QA/QC experience within construction, gained with a site owner, client organisation, or leading contractor.
- Practical experience of site inspections, identifying and managing defects, and verifying corrective actions and close-out.
- Experience supporting site acceptance testing and reviewing inspection and test records.
- Strong understanding of construction quality management, quality assurance, and quality control.
- Good knowledge of inspection and testing practices for electrical and mechanical works.
- Up-to-date working knowledge of ISO 9001 and its application to project quality management.
- A recognised ISO 9001 Lead Auditor qualification, with experience planning, conducting, and reporting audits.
- Relevant quality assurance or quality management qualifications.
- An engineering qualification at HNC/HND level, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
- A CSCS card appropriate to the role.
- Experience managing non-conformances, root cause analysis, and corrective action processes.
- Accurate record-keeping, clear written reporting, and confidence challenging contractor teams on quality issues.
- Willingness and ability to travel across the UK to support multiple project sites.
