The Defence Infrastructure Cost Centre provides support to projects that range in complexity and size with our service offerings spanning across Programme and Project Management, Project Planning, Cost Engineering, Risk Management, and Commercial Disciplines.

We provide support to the full project lifecycle both pre-contract and post contract, delivering infrastructure projects on behalf of our clients, that range from several hundred thousand pounds in value to major projects and programmes worth over £200M.

We are actively looking to expand the team due to client requirements and have talented individuals join us who will support our Defence client portfolio, whilst further developing their career, working on a range of complex and challenging commissions.

Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Risk Practitioner with proven expertise in Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) to join our growing Defence North team.

In this role, you will support clients in the delivery of industry-leading project risk management services across a diverse portfolio of major programmes and projects within the Defence, Nuclear, Construction and Infrastructure sectors. Our projects span the North of the UK, including the Midlands, Cumbria, the North East and Scotland, with opportunities to support programmes across the wider UK.

The team is made up of over 40 people with our central office in Manchester; however, we have team members based all over the North of the UK such as Nottingham, Leeds, Barrow, and Glasgow.

Due to the complexity and scale of our projects, we are seeking risk professionals with demonstrable experience of working within project and programme delivery environments and a strong background in Quantitative Risk Analysis.

Successful candidates will have practical experience in the application of:

  • Quantitative Cost Risk Analysis (QCRA)
  • Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis (QSRA)
  • Integrated Cost and Schedule Risk Analysis
  • Risk modelling, uncertainty analysis and Monte Carlo simulation techniques
  • Development and maintenance of quantitative risk models using industry-standard tools (experience with Safran Risk and/or PRA is advantageous)

Experience within the Defence, Nuclear, Infrastructure or Construction sectors is highly desirable.

A key aspect of this role is the opportunity to work alongside our clients on site, fostering strong partnerships and delivering successful outcomes through face-to-face collaboration. As such, regular UK travel and overnight stays should be anticipated.

As part of our Defence North Risk team, you will work closely with clients and project delivery teams to establish and maintain effective risk management processes, provide insightful risk analysis, and support informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. You will be expected to lead qualitative and quantitative risk management activities, delivering practical solutions that enhance project certainty, performance and successful project outcomes.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience working within project or programme environments in the Defence, Nuclear, Infrastructure or Construction sectors.
  • Strong understanding of Project Risk Management principles and their practical application across the project lifecycle.
  • Proven experience delivering:
    • Quantitative Cost Risk Analysis (QCRA)
    • Quantitative Schedule Risk Analysis (QSRA)
    • Integrated Cost and Schedule Risk Analysis
  • Experience using risk management and quantitative analysis software such as Safran Risk, ARM, Primavera Risk Analysis (PRA), @Risk or equivalent tools.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing risk management frameworks aligned to ISO 31000 and recognised industry standards, ensuring integrated risk management across portfolios, programmes and projects.
  • Strong understanding of the interfaces between Risk Management, Planning, Cost Management and Change Management disciplines.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, facilitation and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multi-disciplinary project controls teams.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting major infrastructure, defence, nuclear or capital delivery programmes.
  • Familiarity with project lifecycle methodologies such as RIBA, GRIP/PACE, CADMID, or equivalent sector-specific frameworks.
  • Professional qualifications such as:
    • APM Project Risk Management Level 2 Award
    • Management of Risk (MoR)
    • Institute of Risk Management (IRM) qualifications
    • APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ)

Working in teams/ Office & Site attendance
