The Opportunity
Hill McGlynn are currently working with an established construction consultancy who are looking to appoint an experienced Project Senior Quantity Surveyor as part of an exciting expansion into Essex.
The initial location is listed as Chelmsford; however, this is not an exact office location. The business is looking to establish a new office in Essex, and the final location can be flexible depending on the successful candidate and the requirements of the business.
This represents an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor who is confident working independently and taking ownership of their workload, while playing an important role in establishing and developing a new regional presence.
You will provide high-quality commercial and cost-management advice throughout the project lifecycle, working directly with clients, contractors and consultants across a varied portfolio of construction and property projects.

The business offers hybrid working, a 37.5-hour working week and flexible start times, alongside excellent opportunities for continued professional and career development.
A relevant construction or surveying degree is essential for this position.
The Role
As Project Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial and cost management of projects from initial feasibility through to completion and final account.
Given the establishment of a new Essex office, you must be competent and confident working independently, managing your own projects, workload and client relationships without requiring significant day-to-day supervision.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
