Overview

Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering (DCE) team is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services. The preferred candidate will have experience in a team environment, deep technical knowledge, and experience in site development, utilities and infrastructure design. In addition, this position requires an individual who can demonstrate the ability to ensure highly resilient and scalable service designs through partnership with other members of the service team. Responsibilities

The Datacenter Senior Civil Engineering SME will:

  • Provide leadership and coordinated direction for civil engineering works as it pertains to the development of datacenters.
  • Civil design support for projects at Site Due Diligence, Site Masterplanning and throughout Detailed Design through construction to handover.
  • This role will require collaboration with Global Technical Excellence team, Global Strategy teams and DCE Operations Team to develop the datacenter designs from basis of design (BOD) to issue for constructions (IFC) and through the Construction Administration phase of datacenter until handover.
  • To be successful in this role the candidate will collaborate with internal & external customers, direct the Civils technical delivery of multiple, concurrent, complete Datacenter design solutions aligned with the scopes, schedules and budgets of the projects.
  • Learn, live, and coach the One Microsoft culture and values.
  • Give technical direction to our vendors who include professional civil engineers, professional architects and professional structural engineers.
  • Collaborate with the Site Selection, Operations, Security, Design teams and external stakeholders to develop data center (DC) designs, starting from project conception to issue for construction (IFC) for new DC projects build outs and major infrastructure upgrades.
  • Apply best practice in Health & Safety throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Degree Civil Engineering or Professional Engineer or Registered/Chartered Engineer or working towards registration
  • Proven years of experience as a Civil Engineer, with sufficient years of experience in a Senior Lead role on Datacenter design or large infrastructural projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of underground utilities, roads & carparks, earthworks and geotechnical engineering, storm water design and flood analysis, experience of detailed co-ordination with all other disciplines Structural/Architectural/M&E/Telecoms
  • Good understanding of construction techniques, sequencing, and site logistics

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good Knowledge of Geotechnical Engineering
  • Ability to navigate in 3D Models, eg BIM360/Navisworks/Revit and the ability to use Microsoft software including effective reporting/presentations of project information
  • Ability to lead teams of engineers in advanced engineering and operational processes and procedures as they relate to large datacenter environments
  • Proficient in problem-solving, judgment, team building, and decision-making skills

  • The typical base pay range for this role across Ireland is € 77,400.00 - € 130,000.00 per year. Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
