This position is based on site in Hull, United Kingdom.
At AAK Hull, we operate the UK’s largest refinery for edible oils and fats at our King George Dock site and supply ingredients and finished products to businesses in the food manufacturing, baking, foodservice, and retail sectors. We enjoy working closely with customers to co-develop bespoke products in our well-equipped Customer Innovation Centre.
About The Role
As part of Phase 2 of the Re-purposing of Site Hull project, the South Refinery will be transformed from its current operational footprint into a state-of-the-art dry fractionation plant. As Project Support Engineer, you will support the safe decommissioning, isolation and removal of existing plant and equipment, excluding E6.
You will assist with the day-to-day supervision of contractors responsible for removing existing services, plant and equipment, while coordinating activities with other team members and disciplines. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical knowledge, practical engineering experience and a clear focus on safe and timely project execution.
Responsibilities
- Carry out the safe isolation of plant and equipment to support decommissioning activities.
- Ensure all activities are carried out in compliance with Safety, Health & Environment regulations.
- Support the day-to-day supervision of contractors working on the removal of plant, equipment and services.
- Identify and implement safe methods for the decommissioning and removal of plant and equipment.
- Support the timely execution of project activities and provide regular progress updates.
- Identify, report and track maintenance and safety issues arising during the shift and through operator care.
- Provide hands-on leadership and practical engineering support throughout the project.

About You
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with strong practical experience and a good understanding of plant and equipment. Mechanical Engineer background.
- Strong knowledge of plant and equipment within a refinery setting.
- Experience with plant decommissioning and safe plant and equipment isolation.
- Ability to read and understand P&ID drawings and translate these into real-life systems.
- Strong hands-on technical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to plan your own workload and work effectively with other disciplines.
- Self-motivated, independent and able to solve practical challenges.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with contractors and colleagues.
