3 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose
To support the Council in meeting its statutory duties under Part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014 by providing efficient and effective administrative and project support to the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) service.
The postholder will oversee and actively contribute to the development of high-quality and timely Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), ensuring that information is accurately collated, communications are effectively managed, and relevant auditing and monitoring procedures are undertaken in accordance with statutory requirements and corporate policies.
The role will contribute to the effective delivery of statutory SEND processes by ensuring that records, information and documentation are maintained accurately and that agreed timescales and quality standards are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide efficient administrative and project support to the SEND service to assist in meeting statutory duties and service requirements.
- Support the coordination and development of high-quality, timely and compliant Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Accurately collate, record and maintain information from education, health, social care and other relevant professionals and stakeholders.
- Monitor the progress of EHCP-related processes and ensure actions, deadlines and statutory timescales are tracked and followed up appropriately.
- Prepare, organise and maintain accurate records, documentation, databases and case information in accordance with Council policies and procedures.
- Support effective communication with parents and carers, children and young people, schools, educational settings, health professionals, social care colleagues and other partner agencies.
- Draft and issue routine correspondence, documentation and communications relating to SEND processes.
- Undertake auditing and quality assurance activities to support compliance with statutory requirements, service standards and agreed procedures.
- Identify missing, incomplete or inconsistent information and take appropriate action to obtain or clarify information.
- Produce reports, summaries and management information to support monitoring, performance management and service improvement.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately in accordance with data protection legislation and Council policies.
- Contribute to the review and improvement of administrative processes, systems and procedures within the SEND service.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to support the timely and effective delivery of SEND statutory processes.
- Ensure all work is undertaken in accordance with relevant legislation, Council policies, procedures and professional standards.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the level and nature of the role as required by the service.

Requirements
- Previous experience in an administrative, clerical, project support or coordination role, preferably within a local authority, education, health, social care or other public sector environment.
- Good understanding of administrative processes and the importance of accuracy, confidentiality and timely completion of work.
- Experience of managing and maintaining accurate records, databases and case-related information.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, priorities and deadlines effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with a range of stakeholders.
- Ability to collate, analyse and present information accurately and identify discrepancies or missing information.
- Experience of monitoring deadlines, actions and processes to ensure work is completed within required timescales.
- Good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and the ability to learn and use relevant case management and database systems.
- Ability to work independently, use initiative and manage workload while also contributing effectively to a team.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality.
- Ability to deal sensitively and professionally with confidential and potentially complex information.
- Understanding of, or willingness to develop knowledge of, SEND legislation and the statutory requirements relating to Education, Health and Care Plans.
- Understanding of the principles of equality, inclusion and safeguarding within services supporting children and young people.
- Commitment to providing a responsive, customer-focused and high-quality administrative service.
