Job Description

East Suffolk Council

Location: East Suffolk House, Melton, Suffolk IP12 1RT
Salary: £26,427 - £26,847 per annum (pro rata for part time hours)
Hours: 25 hours per week
Contract: Fixed Term Contract until 30 June 2027

East Suffolk Council is an exciting place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people’s lives, delivering vital services to a quarter of a million people across East Suffolk.

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join the Active Suffolk team as a Project Support Officer (Health and Wellbeing).

Active Suffolk is an independent, not for profit organisation, hosted by East Suffolk Council and is an energising place to work and a great place to make a real difference to people's lives.

Active Suffolk is committed to increasing the number of people taking part in physical activity and sport to improve health and wellbeing. We have developed our role and reputation as a key player in shaping the current and future provision of physical activity and sport across the county and work with a wide range of partners including local authorities, the health sector, charitable/voluntary organisations and third sector organisations to support people in Suffolk to lead healthy, active lives.

Your role

You will work as part of the health and wellbeing team, who are working collaboratively with a wide range of partner organisations across Suffolk to increase opportunities for adults to be physically active.

This role will focus on providing administrative support to our Active Wellbeing Service by liaising with clients, managing data, compiling resources and producing communications. You will also represent the team at events to support the delivery of programme.

You will have direct communication with clients and partner organisations via email and frequent phone calls; therefore, you must have excellent communication, listening and organisation skills. As well as the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.

The Active Wellbeing Service is delivered in the South Rural Primary Care Network which covers from the Shotley peninsula up to Needham Market and some travel will be required to health centres and events in those areas when required.

Any offer is subject to relevant safer recruitments checks and a satisfactory DBS check.

Active Suffolk's core principles and values:

  • We have Integrity: We commit to make decisions aligned to our organisational aims, values and principles. We will make the right decision, not the easy decision.
  • We are Inclusive: We recognise that listening to, capturing and engaging with differing views and experiences, allows us to continue to grow and learn. We will continually champion for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.
  • We are Collaborative: We will put partnership working at the heart of everything we do and believe collaboration is key to providing positive physical activity outcomes.
  • We are Adaptable: We recognise that the barriers to physical activity are complex and changeable, and we must be adaptable to meet these challenges.
  • We are Informed: Data and insight will drive our decision making to ensure we maximise impact in areas of most need.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
