We’re seeking organised Projects and Governance Partners
We’re seeking organised Projects and Governance Partners to help a Black British heritage charity keep its governance, administration, meetings and developing partnership projects moving forward.
What difference will you make?
Your contribution will help FHALMA keep its governance, administration, meetings and developing partnership projects organised and moving forward. By supporting funding bids and clear reporting to funders and donors, you will strengthen our capacity, accountability and long-term sustainability, helping us attract further investment in our work. This will enable more people of all ages and backgrounds to engage with Black British history, publishing and activism through our projects and intergenerational learning.
What are we looking for?
Ideally, you will have at least three years’ relevant professional experience. We nevertheless welcome people at different career stages who can demonstrate appropriate transferable skills.
You should have
- Strong organisation and time-management skills.
- Experience of coordinating meetings, preparing agendas or taking minutes.
- The ability to maintain action logs and follow up decisions diplomatically.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Good attention to detail and confidence managing documents and records.
- Confidence using Microsoft 365 or similar digital systems.
- An understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
- The ability to work independently while collaborating with a small team.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
Previous experience of a charity, Board, committee or partnership project would be valuable but is not essential.
An understanding of and genuine interest in Black British heritage and history, publishing and activism are particularly important. Candidates should share FHALMA’s commitment to social justice and intergenerational learning and be interested in helping the organisation develop its partnerships, projects and fundraising potential.

This is a volunteer governance and project-support role, not a trustee appointment. We may appoint more than one Projects and Governance Partners to co-work.
The volunteer will
- Help organise Board, committee, project and Away Day meetings.
- Prepare meeting notices, agendas and papers.
- Produce clear minutes, maintain action logs and follow up agreed actions.
- Help review and maintain policies, governance documents and strategic records.
- Support the coordination of partnership projects and funding-related activity.
- Maintain organised digital records and version control using Microsoft 365.
- Help improve communication between trustees, volunteers and project leads.
- Assist with reports, briefings and other project or governance documents.
- Handle confidential information appropriately and follow data-protection requirements.
This role will improve coordination across FHALMA and allow trustees and project leads to concentrate on strategic decisions, partnerships, fundraising and public programmes.
