The Role
Social Work England are the specialist regulator for social work in England, focused on enabling positive change in social work. Our projects and improvement officer helps to maintain and strengthen our project delivery methodology ensuring that all necessary steps are being undertaken to deliver projects successfully. They work closely with the senior project delivery and improvement manager to report on and assess the performance of portfolio performance. They also play a central role in the implementation of our benefits management strategy ensuring that stakeholders are aware of and complying with its requirements.
The projects and improvement officer undertakes an important role supporting our project delivery and improvement managers in complying with our project management methodologies and ensuring that our projects documentation is completed and stored appropriately.
They work with colleagues at all levels, including senior management, executive directors and board members and contribute to the development of a young and learning organisation.
What you will do
- Oversee our project management approach and documentation making improvements where possible.
- Collate project highlight reports and summarise key information in a monthly portfolio report for project stakeholders.
- Support the senior project delivery and improvement manager in assessing portfolio performance and any implications on the achievement of our business plan and strategic objectives.
- Facilitate effective project lessons learned sessions and document the findings.
- Provide administrative support for key meetings including the production of agendas, distribution of documentation and production of minutes.
- Support the delivery of large and/or complex projects and undertake project delivery of your own when appropriate.
- Support the implementation of the benefits management strategy, ensuring appropriate benefits management is taking place at a project level. Collate benefits realisation evidence and support the drafting of a quarterly benefits realisation report.
- Proactively identify and support the management of issues, risks and dependencies across our project portfolio.
- Ensure that our projects are compliant with EDI and data protection requirements.
- Work with the rest of the change and improvement team to ensure our project and organisational risk management approaches are aligned. Support the rest of the change and improvement team planning and improvement as needed.

Your Skills, Knowledge And Experience
- Demonstrable knowledge of project methodology (Prince2 or equivalent) combined with interest in pursuing a career in project management and contributing to the successful delivery of projects.
- The ability to take the initiative and proactively analyse information to understand progress and highlight any risks or issues.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- The ability to solve problems, redesign and make improvements to processes using creative thinking.
- Experience of facilitating meetings or workshops and an understanding of the value of lessons learnt exercises.
- The ability to independently manage several large pieces of work, prioritise and use initiative to design effective solutions.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written including the ability to communicate complex ideas in a concise and easy to understand manner. Experience of producing detailed reports for senior stakeholders and the ability to understand their needs.
- An understanding of the purpose of benefits realisation and how it drives projects.
- An understanding of how risk management contributes to successful delivery of projects, plans and strategies.

Details
- Job type: Permanent
- Working pattern: Full time. We offer flexible working subject to business need.
- Salary: £34,085 per year, rising to £36,520 per year after successful completion of a 6-month probationary period.
- Location: Sheffield/Hybrid
