Property Accountant

An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a Property Accountant to join one of the UK’s leading property investment, development and asset management businesses.

With decades of industry experience, first-class reputation and an ambitious growth strategy, this business offers the opportunity to join a high-performing team and direct assignment to their impressive commercial real estate portfolio.

This is a pivotal role within the property finance function, combining hands-on rent and service charge accounting with financial reporting, business partnering and involvement in systems and process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end rent and service charge accounting across a diverse commercial property portfolio, including office and retail assets.
  • Prepare annual service charge budgets, apportionments, reconciliations, income & expenditure reporting and year-end accounts in accordance with relevant RICS professional standards.
  • Administer rent demands, collections, arrears, rent deposits and rent-free period accounting.
  • Prepare asset- and portfolio-level management accounts, budgets and financial reports, including variance analysis.
  • Monitor capital expenditure across significant re-development and refurbishment schemes.
  • Apply appropriate VAT treatments across rental income and service charges.
  • Business partner with property management and commercial teams to support operational and financial performance.
  • Support new property onboarding, data migration, systems enhancements and process improvement initiatives.

About You

You will have demonstrable experience in a Property Accountant, Real Estate Accountant, Rent and Service Charge Accountant, Property Management Portfolio Accountant or Client Accountant role.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • Strong rent and service charge accounting experience, including budgeting, reconciliations, reporting and year-end accounts.
  • Commercial property experience preferred, although residential and mixed-use backgrounds will also be considered.
  • A sound understanding of relevant RICS professional standards.
  • Strong Excel skills, including VLOOKUP and PivotTables, alongside experience with systems such as Yardi, MRI Horizon, Qube or TRAMPS.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and stakeholder management skills.
  • ACCA, CIMA or ACA qualifications are advantageous but not essential.
