Property & Commercial Combined Underwriter

Location: Leeds

Working Arrangement: Hybrid

Overview

Our client, an international insurance business, is looking for a Property & Commercial Combined Underwriter to join an established underwriting team in Leeds.

You will assess property and commercial combined risks, evaluate insurance applications and determine appropriate coverage while working closely with brokers and clients. The role offers exposure to technical underwriting and the opportunity to use your expertise to develop your underwriting career.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite property and commercial combined risks within agreed authority and in line with business objectives.
  • Assess risks, insurance applications and appropriate coverage options.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, customers, business partners, and colleagues.
  • Use underwriting expertise to contribute to strategy, technical knowledge, and best practice.
  • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements and established underwriting standards.
  • Apply risk profiling, pricing tools, and loss models to support underwriting decisions.
  • Monitor market dynamics and market cycles to inform effective underwriting decisions.

Requirements

  • Experience in property and commercial combined underwriting.
  • Commercial understanding of key profit drivers and long-term portfolio performance.
  • Good knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience using risk profiling and pricing tools and loss models.
  • Strong negotiation skills and an innovative approach to underwriting and programme design.
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation, and interpersonal skills.
