About the Role
London Borough of Hackney is seeking an experienced Property Lawyer to join its Legal & Governance team. You will manage a varied caseload of commercial and local authority property matters, providing high-quality legal advice and supporting the Council on complex transactions and regeneration projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of commercial and local authority property matters.
- Advise Council departments on property-related legal issues.
- Draft and negotiate leases, licences, transfers, easements, agreements, and other legal documents.
- Handle acquisitions, disposals, landlord & tenant matters, and regeneration projects.
- Undertake legal research and provide practical, solution-focused advice.
- Represent the Council in negotiations, meetings, and where appropriate, courts or tribunals.
- Maintain case files using the Council's case management system and comply with professional standards.

Essential Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor, Barrister (England & Wales), or Fellow of CILEX.
- Proven experience in commercial and/or local authority property law.
- Experience managing a complex legal caseload independently.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and legal advisory skills.
- Knowledge of property transactions, landlord & tenant law, acquisitions, disposals, and regeneration.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience using legal case management systems.

Desirable
- Local government legal experience.
- Advocacy experience.
- Knowledge of planning, highways, or regeneration law.
