Building Manager
Edinburgh City Centre
17.00 - 20.00 per hour
Initial 3-Month Contract

Hays is delighted to be supporting a respected Housing Association in Edinburgh with the appointment of a Building Manager to oversee the effective management of its corporate office environment.
This opportunity is offered on an initial 3-month temporary basis and presents an excellent prospect for a candidate seeking a longer-term position, with a strong likelihood of extension and permanent appointment.
The successful candidate will assume responsibility for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, compliance and overall performance of the building, ensuring a safe, efficient and professional working environment for employees, visitors and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Take overall responsibility for the daily management and operation of a large office building.
- Ensure the property operates in accordance with all statutory, regulatory and organisational compliance requirements.
- Manage and coordinate both planned and reactive maintenance activities, ensuring building services remain fully operational.
- Oversee the performance of external contractors and service providers, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently and to agreed standards.
- Lead on health and safety compliance, including fire safety, risk assessments, COSHH requirements, workplace inspections and emergency procedures.
- Maintain accurate records relating to compliance, maintenance, service contracts and building operations.
- Undertake routine building inspections, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions where required.
- Support workplace projects, including office relocations, space utilisation initiatives and sustainability programmes.
- Manage building-related budgets, purchase orders and supplier expenditure as required.
- Act as a key point of contact for building occupants, responding to operational issues and ensuring a high standard of service delivery.
- Support business continuity planning and emergency response arrangements, including undertaking Fire Warden and First Aider responsibilities where appropriate.

Candidate Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants should demonstrate:
- Previous experience within a Building Manager, Facilities Manager, Property Manager or similar role.
- A strong understanding of building operations, facilities management and statutory compliance obligations.
- Experience managing external contractors and service providers.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice within a commercial property environment.
- Excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and make informed operational decisions.
- Experience within the housing, commercial property, public sector or facilities management sectors would be advantageous.
- IOSH, NEBOSH or a comparable health and safety qualification would be beneficial.
