Summary

We’re looking for a Property Operations Manager to join our team at the South Downs. You’ll be responsible for the daily operation of three busy and much-loved National Trust sites, Birling Gap, Monk’s House and Alfriston Clergy House. There will also be a number of projects for you to develop and guide.

What It's Like To Work Here

Reporting to the General Manager for the South Downs, you’ll be accountable for the day-to-day management, visitor operations and compliance for Birling Gap, Alfriston Clergy House and Monk’s House.

Working with the Site Managers, Head Gardener, Facilities Manager, Countryside Manager, Commercial Area Manager, the General Manager and other colleagues, you’ll contribute to the strategic priorities to End Unequal Access and Restore Nature.

You'll be part of the duty management rota for your sites. No, one day will ever be the same.

Some weekend, evening and bank holiday working will be required.

What You'll Be Doing

You’ll work collaboratively with your colleagues, particularly site managers, facilities and community participation to ensure the smooth running of each site. Together, you’ll be making sure that we strike the right balance between welcoming visitors, caring for and restoring nature, and working with members of the local community.

You’ll help your team with their priorities and the confidence to achieve their goals, providing them with the care, resources and direction they need to succeed. In your position in the leadership team, you’ll be involved in the strategic direction of the whole place. From time to time, you’ll stand in for the General Manager to lead the group and attend external partner meetings.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
