ROOTS Systems is a leading global manufacturer of oil-free rotary lobe compressors, process gas blowers, and vacuum booster packages for demanding process applications. With a history dating back to the 1930s, the company designs and builds custom-engineered packages in the UK, serving clients worldwide through a network of local after-sales partners. Products comply with major international standards, including API, ASME, NEMA, AWS, AGMA, IEC, ATEX, and standards from major oil and gas producers. ROOTS Systems specializes in equipment for complex and hazardous gases, including toxic, corrosive, flammable, and radioactive gases, and solutions for operation in potentially explosive atmospheres. Components are available in a wide range of high-performance materials and sealing configurations, tailored to match specific application needs and industry requirements.

Role Description

This full-time, on-site Proposal Engineer role is based in Stonehouse and focuses on developing technically sound and commercially competitive proposals for rotating equipment and related systems. The Proposal Engineer will review customer inquiries and specifications, interpret technical requirements, and prepare detailed proposals, cost estimates, and project scopes in accordance with company standards and international codes.

  • Coordinate with engineering, sales, and procurement teams to gather technical and commercial information.
  • Prepare technical bid documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with client requirements and relevant standards.
  • Support the sales team during the bidding process.
  • Respond to technical and commercial clarifications.
  • Contribute to proposal strategies to improve win rates and profitability.
  • Maintain accurate proposal records.
  • Update internal tools and templates.
  • Support continuous improvement of proposal processes.

Qualifications

  • Strong Proposal Preparation and Proposal Writing skills for complex technical and commercial bids.
  • Solid foundation in Electrical Engineering or related engineering disciplines relevant to rotating machinery and process equipment.
  • Sales-related skills, including customer communication, bid support, and commercial awareness.
  • Procurement-related skills, such as obtaining vendor quotations, evaluating supplier offers, and coordinating cost inputs.
  • Experience interpreting technical specifications, industry standards (e.g., API, ASME, IEC, ATEX), and client requirements.
  • Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail in cost estimation and technical documentation.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly to internal and external stakeholders.
  • A degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent technical qualification, and experience in turbomachinery, gas handling equipment, or oil and gas projects, would be beneficial.
  • Experience with CAD or engineering design tools, familiarity with ERP or CRM systems, and prior work in an
