Technical Proposal Engineer
Location: Cramlington
Salary: Negotiable Depending on Experience
We at JKR are supporting our client recruit for a technically driven and commercially aware Technical Proposal Engineer to join our Product Solutions team in Cramlington.
In this role, you will support our Bid Leaders in developing competitive technical and commercial proposals for our customers. You will translate customer specifications into practical engineering solutions, perform technical evaluations and calculations, and help ensure that every proposed solution is compliant, cost-effective, and fit for purpose.
Responsibilities
Technical Calculation and Design
- Initiate, perform, and/or follow up on project and non-project specific calculations
- Interpret customer specifications and develop suitable designs with the Engineering Manager & Bid Leaders during the offer stage
- Work with and optimise available calculation applications in collaboration with colleagues
- Review customer specifications and ensure compliance with technical and contractual requirements
- Ensure proposed equipment designs are fit for purpose for the intended application and operating environment
Sales and Proposal Support
- Support the Bid Leaders with timely technical reviews, clarifications, and specifications
- Maintain and distribute the PQCL (technical project checklist) for high-potential projects
- Coordinate and consolidate proposal inputs from Engineering, Costing, Purchasing, Manufacturing, and Suppliers
- Participate in proposal review meetings and technical clarification meetings, visiting customers occasionally as needed
- Obtain supplier quotations, assess compliance, and identify technical deviations
- Prepare technical proposal documents, compliance matrices, and clarification responses
- Support development of project cost estimates

Customer & Supplier Relations
- Support customer interactions by providing technical input during bid development
- Participate in customer, supplier, and fabricator meetings to discuss technical requirements and solutions
- Participate in improvement initiatives with customers and within the department
- Liaise directly with customers and suppliers on technical matters
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Exhibit creativity in developing cost-effective technical solutions
- Participate in internal improvement initiatives
- Support adherence to industry standards, legal requirements, and company procedures
Ideal Candidate
- HNC/HND/FdEng in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering desirable
- Experience in engineering, applications engineering, manufacturing, proposal support, or a related technical role
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings
- Understanding of engineering principles, manufacturing practices, and fabrication methods
- Ability to interpret customer specifications, engineering drawings, and technical documentation
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Basic knowledge of Autodesk tools desirable
- Excellent command of English
- Strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills
- Commercial awareness and understanding of technical proposals
- Ability to coordinate activities across multiple disciplines and stakeholders

- Friday: 08:00 – 12:45
