Proposition Technical Manager (External/ adviser facing)
About The Role
M&G's Technical team plays a unique role within the business. We are the technical experts behind our adviser-facing proposition, supporting Intermediated Distribution, Marketing and Proposition teams to deliver market-leading technical support, thought leadership and financial planning content.
As a Proposition Technical Manager (External), you will help maintain and enhance M&G's reputation as one of the UK's leading providers of technical support for financial advisers and paraplanners. You will combine deep technical expertise with strong communication skills, producing high-quality content, supporting proposition development, engaging with advisers and industry bodies, and helping shape M&G's response to legislative and regulatory change.
While the role supports a broad range of financial planning disciplines, we are particularly interested in candidates with strong expertise in tax, trusts and estate planning. Candidates who also come with strong pensions technical expertise, will be especially attractive.
This is an opportunity to join one of the most recognised technical teams in UK financial services. You'll be at the centre of adviser support, thought leadership, proposition development and technical innovation, helping shape how M&G supports advisers, customers and the wider profession through a period of significant legislative and regulatory change.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as M&G's technical expert on pensions, tax and financial planning matters.
- Identify and interpret regulatory and legislative change, helping shape proposition strategy and adviser outcomes.
- Create and deliver high-quality technical content, tools, training and events for advisers and distribution teams.
- Provide technical consultancy across proposition development, marketing activity and business projects.
- Build M&G's reputation through thought leadership, industry engagement and media representation.
- Lead technical delivery across multiple stakeholders and act as deputy to the Head of Technical when required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
