Systems Engineer - Propulsion

Evodia is proud to be supporting our client in seeking a talented Systems Engineer with a specialism in propulsion for an exciting project within the defence sector. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge uncrewed aerial system initiatives in Bristol, with flexible hybrid working requiring just one day onsite each week.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will join a dynamic team supporting a UK Defence Innovation initiative focused on low-cost, disposable propulsion solutions. You'll leverage your aerospace and propulsion systems expertise to develop and refine technical requirements, assess supplier proposals, and support testing and trials activities. Helping shape the future of uncrewed aerial capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and refining technical requirements for procurement aligned with the project's operational needs
  • Supporting early supplier engagement and down-selection processes
  • Performing technical assessment of propulsion propositions, ensuring suitability for UAS applications
  • Supporting supplier assurance visits, technical demonstrations, and reviews
  • Contributing to trials, testing, and evaluation activities
  • Providing technical guidance and transferring skills within the team

What We're Looking For

The ideal candidate should have demonstrable experience in aerospace or propulsion systems engineering, particularly around low-cost or disposable air systems. Your proven track record in delivering technical advice and engineering solutions in fast-paced environments, along with strong problem-solving skills, will be essential.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Expertise in propulsion systems, sub-system integration, and associated engineering considerations
  • Experience supporting engineering outcomes in aerospace, propulsion, or related systems environments
  • Professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Incorporated Engineer (IEng), or similar
  • Proven ability to assess propulsion maturity, integration risks, and manufacturing readiness
  • Strong problem-solving skills within agile, fast-paced project settings

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience with uncrewed aerial systems or expendable/disposable air systems
  • Background in testing, trials, test planning, and success criteria definition
  • Experience working with suppliers during early developmental phases
  • Familiarity with MOD, DE&S, or defence innovation environments

Contract Details

This is an initial contract until 31 March 2027, offering a day rate of up to £600 per day (inside IR35). The role is based in Bristol, requiring one day onsite per week, with the remainder flexible for remote work. Standard working hours are 7.5 hours per day.
