Protection Intermediary Distribution Senior Manager

Location: Remote with travel across the UK.
Hours: Full-time

About this opportunity:

We have a fantastic opportunity within Scottish Widows (SW) to improve peoples' future. Lloyds Banking Group has 26 million customers of which less than 10% have an Insurance, Pension, or Investment product with us. In the UK, half of mortgage owners do not have any life cover and 9 in 10 people have no critical illness cover.

Reporting to the Protection Director you'll be responsible for enhancing SW's reputation and growing our market share. Additionally, you'll be responsible for owning strategic relationships with the UK's major protection intermediary businesses on behalf of SW to develop mutually beneficial relationships and grow profitable business volumes. You'll be encouraged to develop and deliver strategic plans to drive business and build robust relationships with key personnel, securing panel positions for SW Protection where appropriate.

You'll also ensure your team are best equipped to deliver our propositions to the market, in line with any proposition and regulatory changes. This includes supporting your team through our Sales Excellence Framework.

What you'll be doing:

  • Focus on profitability and quality of new business delivery as well as handling persistency and driving the delivery of market share targets across protection products.
  • Build positive relationships in the Intermediary market to position, pitch and influence SW Protection propositions.
  • Using MI, seek opportunities for new pivotal initiatives to drive trading as well as lead performance effectively.
  • Develop and drive new distribution models to grow revenue across multiple channels. This includes collaborating closely with the Halifax Intermediaries team to identify and implement the opportunities in this space.
  • Operate an effective client management system and robust sales process and demonstrate an in-depth understanding of our sales model to effectively account manage existing relationships and to project manage new accounts and onboarding.
  • Own issues at time-of-service recovery and have the strength of relationship to hold the line on our commercial interests.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
