WGM Engineering, part of the RSK Group, is looking for a Protective Coatings Supervisor to join our Engineered Solutions team, based from our workshop in Livingston, working 37.5 hours per week on a Permanent, Full Time basis.
WGM delivers engineering services across water and industrial infrastructure, helping protect assets and keep essential services running. The Role
Reporting to the Delivery Manager – Coatings, you will lead the day-to-day delivery of coatings works, providing clear direction and practical support to site-based operatives. You will help organise workloads, monitor progress and ensure work meets safety, quality and client requirements.
Working closely with the coatings management team and client representatives, you will resolve operational challenges, maintain accurate job records and support your team to deliver a high standard of workmanship.
This role would suit an experienced coatings professional who enjoys leading people, organising work and finding practical solutions.
What You'll Do
- Supervise and support coatings operatives, allocating daily work according to programme priorities, skills and available resources.
- Promote safe working through team briefings, inspections and implementation of agreed risk assessments and method statements, addressing concerns promptly.
- Ensure surface preparation and coatings application follow the relevant specifications, manufacturers’ instructions and agreed quality requirements.
- Coordinate required quality checks and maintain accurate inspection records, measurements and job information packs, escalating defects or non-conformances.
- Monitor delivery progress, identify resource requirements and operational issues, and communicate updates to the Delivery Manager and client representatives.
- Coach and develop team members, supporting consistent working practices, problem-solving and improvements in quality, productivity and service delivery.
What You'll Bring
- Practical experience in industrial or protective coatings application, with an understanding of surface preparation and application methods relevant to the work.
- Relevant coatings inspection certification, such as AMPP/NACE CIP Level 2, or progress towards this qualification
- Experience supervising or leading an operational team, providing clear instructions and practical guidance.
- Ability to interpret coating specifications, work instructions and quality requirements, and maintain accurate job records.
- Good planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage daily priorities and respond to changing workloads.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to safe working, quality, teamwork and continuous improvement.
