DSASW Specialist Tutor Job Specification

Key Responsibilities

The tutor will:

  • Deliver engaging online and face-to-face training sessions.
  • Create and develop learning resources and teaching materials.
  • Assess learner work and maintain accurate records in Bud learner portal.
  • Manage learner caseloads and reviews.
  • Monitor learner progress, portfolio development, off-the-job training, and functional skills.
  • Work closely with employers, providing updates and resolving learner issues where necessary.
  • Maintain compliance with apprenticeship, DfE, and Ofsted requirements.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, standardisation meetings, and employer engagement activities.

Essential Requirements

Candidates should have:

  • A Level 4 qualification (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Teaching and assessment qualifications such as TAQA or D32/D33.
  • English and maths qualifications at Level 2 or above.
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge.
  • Extensive experience supporting adults or children affected by domestic abuse and/or sexual violence.
  • Excellent IT, communication, and report-writing skills.

Essential Sector Experience

The role requires:

  • At least 3 years' specialist experience in domestic abuse, sexual violence, or related support services.
  • At least 2 years' experience delivering training or tutoring.
  • Knowledge of IDVA, ISVA, and CYPDASW roles.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed, person-centred, and needs-led approaches.
  • Experience with risk assessment, safeguarding, referral pathways, and multi-agency working.
  • Knowledge of relevant legal frameworks, support services, and sector best practice.
  • Understanding of apprenticeship standards, assessment methodologies, Ofsted, and DfE requirements.
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills English and maths.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Preferred candidates may also hold:

  • A degree or postgraduate qualification related to domestic or sexual violence.
  • Counselling qualifications.
  • Teaching qualifications such as Cert Ed.
  • D34/Internal Quality Assurance qualifications.
  • Experience training IDVAs, ISVAs, or Children and Young People's Domestic Abuse Advisors.
  • Coaching or mentoring qualifications.

This is a specialist tutoring role aimed at experienced domestic and sexual abuse practitioners who can combine sector expertise, teaching excellence, and apprenticeship compliance knowledge to support learners working towards careers in domestic and sexual abuse support services.
