Provisioning Engineer – Ciena 6500 (Optical / Wave Services)
Up to 4 roles | UK-based | Hybrid (London office Tue & Thu)
We’re supporting a leading fibre & wavelength provider and are looking for experienced Provisioning / Optical Engineers with strong Ciena 6500 expertise.
Contract length: Through to the end of the year (with potential extension)
The Role:
You’ll play a key part in the design, build, testing and provisioning of high-capacity Wave services. Day-to-day you’ll:
- Create network designs and documentation for transmission and packet (L2/L3) solutions
- Review designs to ensure they align with long-term network strategy and scalability
- Manage network capacity, upgrades, disconnects and reallocation
- Configure and test network elements (routers, switches, multiplexers)
- Support service activation and implementation
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date technical documentation
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and internal design principles

What We’re Looking For:
Must-have:
- Extensive hands-on experience with Ciena 6500 optical transmission systems
- Deep knowledge of DWDM, ROADM, Flexgrid and photonic layer technologies
- Understanding of IP L2/L3 protocols (BGP / MPLS advantageous)
- Experience with optical test equipment and performance monitoring tools
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and documentation skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities

Nice-to-have:
- Experience with other optical vendors (Nokia, Adva, Ekinops)
- Vendor certifications (Ciena, Juniper, Cisco, Nokia)
