Learning Mentor | PRU / SEMH | Islington | Full-Time
Are you a Learning Mentor, Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Mentor or Youth Worker with experience supporting young people with SEMH and behavioural needs?
A specialist Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Islington is looking for a confident and resilient Learning Mentor to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis.
This is a great opportunity for someone who understands that getting a young person back into education isn't always about the lesson itself — it's about building trust, removing barriers and helping them believe they can succeed.
The Role – Learning Mentor
You will work closely with pupils who may have experienced exclusions, persistent disengagement, challenging behaviour or difficulties within mainstream education.
Your role will include:
- Providing 1:1 and small-group learning support
- Supporting pupils with SEMH, behavioural and additional learning needs
- Helping pupils re-engage with education and develop positive learning habits
- Building strong, consistent relationships with young people
- Supporting pupils with literacy, numeracy and classroom learning
- Helping pupils manage barriers to learning, confidence and motivation
- Working alongside teachers and pastoral staff to support individual pupils
- Encouraging independence, resilience and positive behaviour
- Supporting pupils to work towards their academic, behavioural and personal targets
- Providing a calm, consistent and positive presence throughout the school day

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
