Prudential Risk Manager (Commodities)
Based: London (Hybrid)
Our client is an established and successful global Commodities Trading business, with an opportunity for an experienced Prudential Risk Manager to join its London operation.
This is a newly created and highly visible role, with responsibility for providing dedicated and independent oversight of the firm's prudential risk framework. Reporting directly to the CEO, the successful candidate will take ownership of the firm's ICARA, IFPR / MIFIDPRU requirements, regulatory capital and liquidity framework, working closely with senior stakeholders across Compliance, Finance, Market Risk, Credit Risk and the Front Office.
The role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to assess the existing framework, identify and address any gaps, and shape the Prudential Risk function as the business continues to develop.
Job Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of the firm's Internal Capital Adequacy and Risk Assessment (ICARA) process, ensuring the framework remains robust, proportionate and aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Assess the existing prudential risk framework, undertake gap analysis and implement enhancements where required.
- Monitor and assess the firm's ongoing capital and liquidity adequacy under the FCA's IFPR / MIFIDPRU framework.
- Oversee and challenge the calculation and application of relevant K-Factors, ensuring methodologies and assumptions remain appropriate.
- Develop and maintain appropriate prudential risk policies, frameworks, controls and governance.
- Lead and coordinate stress testing and reverse stress testing, including consideration of the impact of adverse market conditions on capital and liquidity.
- Maintain and develop the firm's wind-down planning, ensuring appropriate financial resources and actions are considered under stressed scenarios.
- Identify, assess and monitor regulatory developments affecting the firm's prudential requirements, determining their impact and ensuring appropriate changes are implemented.
- Work closely with Finance, Compliance, Market Risk, Credit Risk and Front Office teams to understand the firm's risk profile and ensure relevant exposures are appropriately reflected within the prudential framework.
- Work with relevant teams to ensure market, liquidity and concentration risks are appropriately understood and reflected within the prudential framework.
- Support the preparation and review of relevant FCA / MIFIDPRU regulatory submissions and associated management information.
- Produce clear, concise and technically robust documentation and reporting for the CEO, senior management and other relevant governance forums.
- Act as the firm's internal subject matter expert for prudential risk, providing guidance and challenge to senior stakeholders across the business.
- Support the continued development of the Prudential Risk function as regulatory or business requirements evolve.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
