Salary: £26,707 to £30,378 (Full-time indefinite)

The Physiological Services Unit (PSU) is located within the Division of Biomedical and Life Sciences (BLS) in the Faculty of Health and Medicine (FHM) and supports biomedical research using a variety of laboratory animal species. All animals are cared for in accordance with the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA), implemented by the Home Office through the Animals in Science Regulation Unit (ASRU).
The role involves delivery of essential animal husbandry and welfare duties, which must be provided on a daily basis throughout the year. You will be expected to work some weekends and University closure days as part of the out of hours PSU rota team supporting animal welfare. Working with the PSU Technical Team, you will have a genuine interest in furthering the welfare of laboratory animals and will provide reliable and enthusiastic support for animal care coupled with meticulous attention to detail. You will also provide technical skills that support biomedical laboratory animal research. In addition, you will support PSU research by taking a leading role in overseeing the operation and maintenance of key infrastructure in the facility and in employing and developing new computer systems to support PSU and BLS research. As this is a career development role, it is not anticipated that you will currently have skills in all of these areas. On the job training will be provided, and you will be supported by the department and BLS colleagues in developing the skills needed to fulfil the role in its entirety.
