Job Title: PSV / HGV Technician
Location: Reading
Salary: GBP29+ per hour, depending on shift pattern
Job Type: Full time, Permanent. Monday:Friday days 8am : 4pm/6am : 2pm and late shift 4 on 4 off 3pm : 2am.
We are looking for PSV / HGV Technicians to join our engineering team at our Reading depot.
We want hard-working, self-starting individuals with a passion for repairing and maintaining heavy-duty vehicles. You will play an important role in ensuring our bus fleet is maintained to a high standard and operates safely and reliably.
You'll be joining an award-winning department that is a founder member of the DVSA's Earned Recognition scheme.
This is an excellent opportunity for experienced PSV / HGV technicians, mechanics and vehicle engineers looking to develop their career within a professional and supportive engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect, repair, and maintain our buses to a high standard
- Investigate and diagnose mechanical and electronic faults
- Carry out preventative maintenance and repairs as required
- Record faults and the work performed to fix them using a tablet
- Follow all safety instructions and procedures
- Report any issues promptly and accurately
- Contribute to a safe, compliant and efficient workshop environment
- Ensure all work is completed to the required engineering and safety standards

Shift Patterns
Positions are available across a range of shift patterns, including:
- Monday : Friday day shift: Alternating two-week shift pattern of 8am : 4pm and 6am : 2pm
- 4 on / 4 off late shift: 3pm : 2am
The rate of pay will be determined by the rota you work on, with rates of GBP29+ per hour available.
Experience And Qualifications
Our ideal candidates will:
- Possess at least an NVQ Level 2 qualification in the maintenance and repair of public service vehicles or heavy goods vehicles, or an equivalent international qualification
- OR have at least five years experience in repairing and maintaining public service or heavy goods vehicles
- Be able to provide evidence of relevant experience where the five-year experience route is being used
- Provide evidence of your qualification from the awarding body
- Have a strong understanding of mechanical and electronic vehicle systems
- Be confident diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs
- Have a strong commitment to safety and high standards of workmanship
- Be hard-working, self-starting and able to work effectively as part of a team
If you don't have an NVQ qualification, you'll need to pass the IRTEC Service Maintenance Technician exam during your six-month probation period.

About You
We are looking for individuals who are passionate about vehicle engineering and take pride in maintaining and repairing heavy-duty vehicles.
You will be a motivated and reliable technician who can work safely and efficiently, with strong diagnostic skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
You should be comfortable working independently while also contributing positively to the wider engineering team.
