Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner

We are seeking a dedicated Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner to join our Redbridge Talking Therapies service at Goodmayes Hospital. This permanent role, based in a dynamic and supportive team, offers a salary aligned with Band 5 (£32,073 - £39,043, pro-rated for less than full-time hours) and follows a Monday to Friday schedule. The role involves providing specialist psychological assessments and interventions to individuals aged 18 and over experiencing mild to moderate psychological distress, including those with complex needs.

The Role
As a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, you will play a pivotal role in delivering evidence-based interventions to support individuals in their recovery journey. You will also contribute to service improvement, clinical supervision, and research to enhance outcomes for our service users.
- Accept referrals and develop tailored care programmes in line with service protocols.
- Conduct patient-centred assessments, identifying areas for change and assessing risks to self or others.
- Provide high-volume, low-intensity psychological treatments, including guided self-help and computerised CBT.
- Educate and involve family members and others in treatment plans where appropriate.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure a seamless stepped care approach.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and contribute to data collection and analysis for informed decision-making.
- Participate in clinical supervision and integrate feedback to enhance practice.
Essential Skills And Qualifications

The post holder will achieve this by providing specialist psychological assessments and interventions in our NHS Talking Therapies primary care service, seeing people aged over 18 with mild to moderate psychological distress of some complexity. The psychological therapist will also be engaged in the clinical supervision of others, clinically relevant research and in indirect work, such as service development and planning.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Skills
- Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service and develop programmes of care packages.
- Assess and supports people with a common mental health problem in the self-management of their recovery.
- Undertake patient-centred interviews which identifies areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and makes an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.
- Make decisions on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the department’s referral protocols, refers unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as necessary or steps-up the person’s treatment to high intensity psychological therapy.
- Provide a range of information and support for evidence based high-volume low-intensity psychological treatments. This may include guided self-help computerised CBT, information about pharmacological treatments. This work may be face to face, telephone or via other media.
- Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary.
- Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the overall number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.
- Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate.
- Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.
- Keep coherent records of all clinical activity in line with service protocols and use these records and clinical outcome data in clinical decision making.
- Work closely with other members of the team ensuring appropriate step-up and step-down arrangements are in place to maintain a stepped care approach.
- Assess and integrate issues surrounding work and employment into the overall therapy process.
- Operate at all times from an inclusive values base which promotes recovery and recognises and respects diversity.
- Prepare and present clinical information for all patients on their caseload to clinical case management supervisors within the service on an agreed and scheduled basis, in order to ensure safe practice and the clinical governance obligations of the worker, supervisor and service are delivered.
- Respond to and implement supervision suggestions by supervisors in clinical practice.
- Engage in and respond to personal development supervision to improve competences and clinical practice.

Computer/Administration
- To attend team and psychology business meetings regularly.
- To develop and facilitate effective means of disseminating relevant information to colleagues.
- To keep accurate and up to date case notes, information and other documentation in accordance both with the teams’ operational policies and the Trust’s policies and procedures.
- To make such records available for clinical, statistical and financial purposes, observing the Trust and BPS Professional Practice Guidelines on client confidentiality.
- To participate in Trust audit procedures as appropriate.
- To keep up to date and accurate work activity figures and to make these available to the appropriate departments.
- To work with the team to manage and develop the procedures for referrals and caseload management.
- To produce relevant information for colleagues and clients on psychology and services offered.
- To keep accurate official car mileages figures and submit these regularly.
Communication
- To liaise with colleagues in Social, Health, Education, Heritage, Library, and Leisure Services to support the clients in furthering plans for their own personal development.
- To investigate methods of improving the mental health knowledge and skills of other agencies such as consultancy, teaching and advice.
- To work alongside other agencies to help break down issues of stigma and prejudice that confront the client group, improve public awareness of mental health issues and promote positive images of mental health services.
- To support the team in developing a high profile for the service through events and activities held throughout the local community.

Training
- To make a significant contribution to the team’s professional development by providing teaching in various appropriate areas of clinical skills and knowledge as identified in the service’s business and training plans.
- To participate in the development of teaching programmes and in the development of innovative and effective teaching methods.
- To attend teaching events within and outside the Trust that lie within the areas specified in business and personal development plans
- To disseminate developments of good practice within the team, the psychology service and throughout the Trust as appropriate
- To attend regular clinical supervision to maintain skills as a reflective practitioner, develop and focus practice and share ideas about therapeutic work
- To provide clinical supervision on a regular basis to more junior staff, including Low Intensity staff and trainee psychologists
tasks.
Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office at Goodmayes, Essex.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High Cost Area Supplement Outer London (B&D, Redbridge, Havering and Waltham Forest)
This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,714 to a maximum of £5,941 p.a. pro rata for part time).
