Are you passionate about politics, public policy and the role energy plays in shaping the UK's future? This is an exciting opportunity to join Centrica's Group Public Affairs team at a pivotal time for the energy sector. You'll work at the heart of government, policy and stakeholder engagement, helping to shape conversations that impact millions of customers while supporting iconic brands including British Gas and Scottish Gas.
Working closely with colleagues across Corporate Affairs, Regulatory, Legal and the wider business, you'll help strengthen Centrica's reputation as a responsible energy supplier and trusted market leader. From building relationships with policymakers and political stakeholders to supporting campaigns that showcase our investment in energy security, resilience and sustainability, you'll play a key role in helping shape a greener, fairer energy future for the UK.
Location: UK Flexible with travel as required
Key Accountabilities
- Monitor political events and parliamentary business and update colleagues with timely and accurate briefings on relevant events
- Building and supporting Centrica’s relationships with MPs, advisors and other political stakeholders, including mayoralty and local authority stakeholders, through a regular face-to-face engagement programme, as well as email and phone communications
- Review and manage correspondence from political stakeholders relating to customer casework. Support on local engagement programmes, including VIP visits to our sites and assets. This may include regular travel to locations which host Centrica operational assets
- Collaborating with corporate affairs colleagues to create compelling campaigns, content and messaging to highlight Centrica’s contribution to energising a greener, fairer, future
- Assist with strategic briefings and intelligence for senior level colleagues on Government policy
- Represent the business, attend meetings on behalf of the public affairs team, including external visits to Parliament and to MP energy advice events (note this may involve some travel). Provide advice and guidance on external communications issues, while also identifying potential risks and opportunities, and pro-actively supporting Corporate Affairs strategy
- Provide support to colleagues across Corporate Affairs where needed

Key Stakeholders
- Executive and Senior Leaders within the Group
- Public Affairs / Corporate Affairs and Communications - email and meetings with wider team to provide support and collaborate on workstreams
- Legal / Regulatory email and meeting to engage on policy and advocacy
- Executive Office – email, to ensure correspondence is responded to in a timely and accurate manner
- Marketing to align Centrica’s external messaging
- Political stakeholders to promote Centrica’s reputation
Competencies
- Experience working within a political, public affairs, government relations or parliamentary environment, either in-house, consultancy, agency, trade association, Civil Service or similar setting
- Strong understanding of UK politics, parliamentary processes and the policy-making landscape
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including politicians, government officials, regulators and industry bodies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing briefings, stakeholder communications and materials for senior leaders
- Strong analytical and influencing skills, with the ability to translate complex policy and regulatory issues into clear business insights and recommendations
- Knowledge of the energy sector, energy policy or other regulated industries is desirable. Degree qualified or equivalent professional experience
