About the Business Unit

Role Overview

We seek an energetic and proactive Principal Mechanical Engineer (Public Health) to lead our Tunnel Systems MEP team, driving excellence in design and project delivery.

Key Focus:

  • Overseeing technical quality and engineering compliance
  • Leading public health engineering from concept through to execution
  • Enhanced responsibility over detailed calculations, equipment specifications, and regulatory compliance

Key Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership:
    • Lead teams of engineers and technicians
    • Manage and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams
    • Ensure alignment with agreed technical frameworks

  • Technical Deliverables:

    • Develop reliable design solutions, reports, specifications, and drawings
    • Present technical solutions to clients and stakeholders
    • Oversee integration of mechanical/public health systems with broader designs
  • Bid & Business Growth:

    • Contribute to bid management and business development
  • Team Development:

    • Mentor and guide junior engineers in technical and professional growth

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential

  • Degree qualification with membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IMechE, CIBSE)
  • Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Experience in major engineering and construction environments

Technical Expertise

Must demonstrate proficiency in:

  • Pumped foul water systems
  • Surface water drainage
  • Above-ground soil/waste systems
  • Hot/cold-water systems
  • Gas detection systems
  • Compressed air systems
  • Fire hydrant/suppression systems
  • Sprinkler and hose reel designs

Desirable

  • Transport infrastructure project experience (highways, tunnels, etc.)
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015
  • Multidisciplinary project management skills (design-build partnerships)
  • Proven organisation and ability to deliver against deadlines
  • Proficiency in software: Bluebeam, Hevacomp, MicroDrainage, Revit, ProjectWise, MS Office
  • Experience in BIM procurement and integration
