Salary: £32,597 - £36,363 (pro-rate for p/t hours)
Hours: Part-time, 22.2 hours per week.
Contract: Permanent
Closing date: Sunday 11th October 2026
Role purpose
You’ll be playing a key role in identifying and reducing health inequalities across Somerset. You will do this by developing public health intelligence tools, including systems for data collection and quality assurance. Using this data, you will design and develop reports, dashboards and databases to utilise this information, with the aim of driving evidence-based decision making.
You’ll be working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners, providing analytical insight and communicating your findings clearly and effectively. Your reporting will allow stakeholders to understand population health needs and identify the best opportunities for improving outcomes and reducing health inequalities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, own, maintain and develop data collection and quality assurance systems.
- Design, own, maintain and develop reports, dashboards and databases.
- Provide data and analytical input to public health led assessments and audits.
- Liaise with public health colleagues, council and external partners. Attend contract review and engagement meetings.
- Advise, direct and inform decision making around project implementation, data capture and recording.
- Respond to ad-hoc enquiries and bespoke analysis requests from service providers, commissioners, councillors and other stakeholders.
- Support public health colleagues in understanding population health data and statistics.
What You’ll Bring
- Advanced skills and knowledge of Power Query and Power BI to develop dashboards or reports using complex data from multiple sources.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) for analysis and presentation of data in reports.
- Previous experience (preferably in a public health field or local authority or NHS background) of statistical analysis.
- Experience of working with relational databases data matching, data modelling and large datasets.
- Educated to degree level in statistics or another subject relevant to public health with high statistical content.
- Able to map logical step-by-step process and to consider design implication in data collection, processing and reporting.
- Able to innovate and design dashboards and reports that are accessible engaging and meet the needs of customers.
- Able to present information clearly, confidently and concisely with attention to detail.
- Ability to speak fluent English as stated in Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016).

About The Team
The Public Health Intelligence Team provides the evidence and insight that helps improve health and reduce inequalities across Somerset. We are a small, supportive and collaborative team, working closely with public health colleagues, NHS partners and wider council services to turn data into meaningful action. Additional Information
- 30 days of annual leave (additional to bank holidays), pro rata
- This role is Hybrid working comprising frequent office working with some home-based work. The post will be based at County Hall, Taunton.
- A basic DBS check will be required for this role.
- Interviews are planned to take place remotely via Microsoft Teams on Friday 23rd October 2026.
