About the Role
Public Health Intelligence Analyst Apprentice (Specialist Level 7 Apprentice)
Fixed term contract for up to 36 months due to funding
Salary: Band: 9, £40,443 – £44,252 p.a.
Level 7 health and care intelligence specialist apprenticeship with JGA for 22 months (6 hours off-the-job training per week), followed by 14 months of embedding that learning.
Hours: 37 hours per week.
Attendance: Office attendance is required minimum 2-days a week for full time staff, this remains flexible, subject to business needs.
Your New Role
The successful candidate will join the Strategic Intelligence and Research Team, reporting to the Public Health Principal Intelligence Analyst. You will support the delivery of public health intelligence functions, including the statutory Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA), by gathering, quality assuring, analysing and interpreting population-level data. You will contribute to needs assessments and other public health intelligence outputs that inform strategic decision making and commissioning, using statistical analysis, research, GIS mapping, reports and meaningful visualisations.

As part of the role, you will complete the Health and Care Intelligence Specialist Level 7 Apprenticeship, developing advanced analytical, leadership, stakeholder engagement, project management and communication skills through practical application in the workplace.
You will work collaboratively with colleagues across Portsmouth City Council and external partners, including the University of Portsmouth, HIVE Portsmouth and NHS partners. You will help colleagues and stakeholders understand and use data effectively, contributing to evidence-informed decision making while working in line with the Council’s values and policies.
Who Is The Person
You will be educated to degree level in Public Health, statistics or a related subject, or have equivalent experience, and will normally have substantial experience working in an analytical, intelligence or research environment. You will be able to analyse, interpret and present complex public health, health, care or population-level data using appropriate research methods and statistical techniques.
You will have a good understanding of population data sources, information governance and data protection requirements, together with experience of using databases, SQL or similar query languages, and analytical tools such as Excel, Power BI, R, Python or DAX. You will be a good communicator, able to translate complex findings into clear reports, visualisations and presentations for a wide range of audiences.
