Public Health Manager
We require an experienced Public Health Manager to work in the Public Health team (Building Blocks and Health Policy portfolio). The team focuses on addressing the wider determinants of health to improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities in Northumberland.
About the Role
As manager of the Building Blocks team, you will be responsible for managing a small team responsible for the planning, housing, and transport elements of the building blocks portfolio.
You will work collaboratively with colleagues within the Public Health Team, and with colleagues from across the council from the housing, planning, economic development, strategic transport and other delivery functions.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly and supportive team, working in a large and diverse county with both urban and rural places, bringing community voice and professional expertise to the development of healthy neighbourhoods.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a small team responsible for the planning, housing, and transport elements of the building blocks portfolio
- Work collaboratively with colleagues within the Public Health Team and across the council
- Address the wider determinants of health to improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities
Requirements of the Job
- Degree in Public Health, Health Promotion or related field
- Knowledge and understanding of the main health inequalities in Northumberland and the social determinants of health
- Proven track record of adapting and applying public health skills, knowledge and competencies to all priorities as well as be able to apply the evidenced base to all public health programmes and settings
- Specialist knowledge of health improvement and addressing the wider determinants of health including community centred approaches
- Experience at multi-agency partnership working
- Experience of supervision of staff, including training and development, workload management, wellbeing support, and performance

Interviews will be held on the 28th of October 2026. We offer flexible working arrangements. Please note, this is a fixed term contract for 3 years.
