PKI SME
Pay: £580 P/D
Contract: 6 MONTH CONTRACT
Location: FULLY REMOTE
About the Role
My client, within Financial Services, are looking for a PKI SME, who will be responsible for providing technical leadership, strategic guidance, and expert support across the organisation’s Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) services. The role works closely with engineering teams, customers, vendors, and service management functions to ensure PKI services remain secure, resilient, current, and aligned with industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert-level PKI technical guidance, including certificate lifecycle management, cryptographic technologies, SSL/TLS, Venafi, and associated infrastructure.
- Conduct gap analysis and technical assessments of existing PKI products, services, and supporting technologies, identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Provide strategic recommendations to management on new PKI features, product versions, technology roadmaps, and future service direction.
- Act as the technical authority and SME for engineering teams, providing guidance on complex technical matters, solution design, and engineering frameworks.
- Support customers with the initial design and integration of PKI services, ensuring solutions meet security, technical, and operational requirements.
- Provide third-line technical support and troubleshooting for complex PKI incidents and problems requiring specialist expertise.
- Work closely with vendors on product roadmaps, feature requests, technical issues, upgrades, and support escalations.
- Contribute to and provide technical leadership for PKI transformation and migration initiatives, including the transition to new PKI platforms or cloud-based services.
- Promote industry best practices, continuous improvement, automation, and secure-by-design principles across PKI services.
- Support effective change implementation through appropriate service management, governance, RFC, and operational processes.

- Expert-level knowledge of PKI, including certificate authorities, certificate lifecycle management, cryptographic algorithms, SSL/TLS, and PKI products such as Venafi.
- Strong understanding of supporting technologies, including Microsoft SQL Server, load balancers, identity and access management, and privileged access management.
- Knowledge of PKI industry standards, best practices, tools, and emerging technologies.
- Experience with RBAC, IAM, and PAM concepts and their application within enterprise environments.
- Knowledge of the NIST Cybersecurity Framework is desirable.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical troubleshooting skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working with Service Management processes and tools, including ServiceNow, incident/problem management, change management, and RFC processes.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly advanced Excel.
- Demonstrable ability to provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineering teams.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and perform effectively under pressure.
- A strong continuous-improvement mindset, with a proven ability to identify opportunities for optimisation and successfully implement change.
- Experience working within large-scale enterprise environments, preferably within the financial services sector.
