About the Opportunity
We are seeking an Audit Assistant Manager to join our Public Sector Audit team in Manchester. With over 5,000 people in the UK and a presence in 150 global markets, we are on an ambitious journey from great to exceptional. About the Team
Our UK audit practice comprises over 2,300 people working across 24 locations. We take pride in our strong position in terms of wellbeing, resources, and quality, as evidenced by our recent positive AQR results. Grant Thornton’s Public Sector Audit team is the market leader in providing external audit services to local government, police, fire, and the NHS. We audit approximately 25% of the NHS market and 36% of local government.

A Look Into the Role
As an Audit Assistant Manager within our Public Sector Audit service line, you will have:
- Excellent knowledge of IFRS as adapted by the CIPFA Code of practice on local authority accounting and the DHSC group accounting manual
- Extensive experience of using audit software and Microsoft packages
- Experience working with public sector clients
- A genuine interest in our clients with an ability to confidently discuss business challenges and needs
- An interest in maintaining and developing your technical knowledge to facilitate and lead valuable discussions with our clients

Knowing You’re Right for Us
To join us as an Audit Assistant Manager, you will need a professional qualification (ACA, ICAS, CA, ACCA, or CIPFA) with post-qualification experience, and confidence in managing a large portfolio of audit clients. While the following skills would be beneficial, we will help you develop them along the way:
- Experience of managing audits of public sector bodies in addition to dealing with complex technical matters
- Excellent knowledge of IFRS as adapted by the CIPFA Code of practice on local authority accounting and the DHSC group accounting manual
- Project management experience
- Experience of a wide range of public sector clients would be beneficial
- Extensive experience of using audit software and Microsoft packages
