Responsibilities

• Support Birmingham schools to improve achievement, inclusion and access for pupils with cognition, learning and language needs.
• Assess pupil needs and provide clear reports on progress, attainment and development.
• Advise on SEN identification, assessment approaches, teaching strategies, differentiation and support systems.
• Model specialist teaching and assessment techniques for school staff.
• Use a range of assessment tools including standardised, criterion‑referenced and informal methods.
• Contribute to statutory processes and attend reviews where required.
• Work collaboratively with SENCOs, school leaders, families, Health and Social Care and wider partners.
• Deliver training and professional development for individual schools and family groups.
• Support schools with Ofsted preparation and SEND‑related developments.
• Use data effectively to analyse progress, evaluate provision and drive whole‑school improvement.
• Lead evidence‑based interventions in literacy, language and maths, ensuring progress is tracked and shared.
• Plan and prepare targeted support for pupils, schools and family groups.
• Maintain accurate records and report pupil progress to schools, parents and agencies.
• Support colleagues with local and national SEND initiatives and training.
• Facilitate school‑to‑school support within family groups, sharing effective SEN practice.
• Coordinate improvement priorities across family groups for pupils with cognition, learning and language needs.

Qualifications

• Qualified Teacher Status.

Desirable

• Specialist SEND qualifications such as:
  • Access Arrangements
  • Dyslexia with APC accreditation
  • Speech, Language & Communication
  • Maths/Dyscalculia
  • English as an Additional Language
  • Psychometric Testing
