About the Role

Our long term Manufacturing client in Berkhamsted is looking for a Purchaser due to expansion. The Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, procuring, and managing all materials, components, and subcontracted manufacturing required to successfully deliver client projects.

Working closely with Project Managers, Product Designers, and the Workshop, the Purchaser ensures products are manufactured to the required quality, delivered on time, and represent the best value to the business.

The role is heavily focused on supplier management, quality assurance, cost control, and proactive communication throughout the life of a project.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Supplier Management

  • Source suitable suppliers for bespoke and production lighting components.
  • Obtain competitive quotations from multiple suppliers where appropriate.
  • Evaluate suppliers based on quality, capability, lead times, reliability, and cost.
  • Build and maintain long-term supplier relationships.
  • Regularly review supplier performance.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and lead times.
  • Identify alternative suppliers to reduce business risk.
  • Ensure purchasing decisions align with project budgets and delivery requirements.

Project Procurement

Following Design Sign-off, the Purchaser Will

  • Attend the formal project handover meeting with Product Design and the Project Manager.
  • Review the complete manufacturing package before placing orders.
  • Ensure all required information has been received including:
    • Approved drawings
    • Bill of Materials (BOM)
    • Exploded drawings
    • Component specifications
    • Finishes
    • Wiring requirements
    • Special manufacturing instructions
  • Raise queries before orders are placed.
  • Issue Purchase Orders.
  • Maintain purchasing schedules for every live project.
  • Monitor supplier progress throughout manufacture.
