Start or build your career in purchasing with a market leader

At Macfarlane Packaging, we're in the business of protecting what matters – our people, our customers and the planet. With over 75 years of industry expertise, we combine stability with innovation in a fast-paced environment. We're equally passionate about growing careers, and this is a fantastic opportunity to learn the world of purchasing and supply chain from the ground up, with full training and support from an experienced team.

Your Role: Purchasing Administrator

Based at our Sudbury site, you'll join our friendly local procurement team, reporting to the Senior Buyer and working alongside our local Buyers and Inventory Controller. Your focus will be making sure stock is ordered accurately and on time, so our customers get what they need, when they need it.

No two days are quite the same. One moment you'll be raising purchase orders and chasing suppliers, the next you'll be helping our customer service team find the right solution for a customer.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Raising and administering purchase orders for standard and non-standard stock items, keeping stock at the right levels while keeping costs down
  • Contacting suppliers to confirm orders have been received and requesting order acknowledgements
  • Flagging any delivery issues or discrepancies to the sales team so they can be resolved quickly
  • Keeping Excel stock spreadsheets and pricing sheets accurate and up to date
  • Working with our logistics team to maintain our 24/48-hour delivery schedule for customers
  • Supporting our customer service team with up-to-date delivery information and alternative solutions for customers
  • Providing day-to-day support to the local procurement team, along with general office duties
  • Building your knowledge of our packaging solutions and the wider supply chain

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
