Supply & Purchasing Manager
Location: Birmingham (Snow Hill) – Hybrid (3 days on-site per week)
Pay Rate: Up to £500 per day (Inside IR35 / via Umbrella)
Contract Duration: 3–6 Months (High likelihood of Permanent conversion)
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a proactive, operational Supply & Purchasing Manager to join a leading enterprise organisation in Birmingham. This is an initial 3 to 6-month contract designed for a quick turnaround, with a strong intent to transition into a permanent role.
The primary objective of this position is to centralise and simplify fragmented supply chain operations. Currently operating across 15–20 disparate systems, the organisation is consolidating demand planning, forecasting, supply planning, and purchasing under one unified function. You will eliminate duplicate stock supplies across multiple teams, build clear visibility, and establish robust, streamlined controls.

- Department Centralisation: Bring isolated purchasing functions and teams under a single, unified supply chain umbrella to drive operational efficiency.
- System & Process Simplification: Lead the transition from 15–20 legacy systems into a streamlined operating environment, increasing overall inventory and order visibility.
- Demand & Supply Planning: Consolidate demand planning and forecasting across sales, service, commercial, and operational teams to align customer requirements with available stock.
- Inventory Control & Cost Avoidance: Identify and eradicate instances of duplicate stock procurement across different business units, prioritizing existing inventory redeployment before authorizing new purchases.
- Purchasing Governance: Establish clear, standardized buying routes, approval hierarchies, and control frameworks to monitor and approve purchase requests.
- Team Leadership & Operational Oversight: Manage, support, and guide cross-functional teams through operational change and process standardization.

Key Qualifications & Experience
- Supply Chain Expertise: Proven experience in supply chain planning, procurement operations, and demand/supply forecasting within a complex environment.
- Operational Leadership: Demonstrable experience centralizing fragmented purchasing routes, consolidating systems, and managing operational teams through change.
- Stock & Inventory Control: Skilled in identifying duplicate inventory, optimizing working capital, and designing practical purchasing controls.
- Systems Proficiency: Strong background working with ERP, inventory management, or modern purchasing systems.
- Communication & Stakeholder Management: Confidence to constructively challenge purchase requests, align business units, and present clear insights to senior stakeholders.
