Purchasing Specialist - Fixed-Term Contract
Be part of our team in Royston as a Purchasing Specialist on a fixed-term contract. Join our Sourcing & Purchasing team as a Purchasing Specialist and play a key role in ensuring that the materials and services needed to drive innovation are available when and where they are needed. Through operational purchasing and supplier coordination, you will help create reliable supply processes that enable our teams to focus on what matters most: better health for more people. This position is offered on a fixed-term contract until the end of November 2027. Based in Royston with the possibility to work some days remotely, you will contribute to a collaborative environment focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Grow with us – Your Responsibilities
- Execute purchase orders for materials and services within your assigned scope using approved suppliers, contracts, and procurement processes to ensure continuous operational supply
- Coordinate order confirmations, deliveries, and invoice clarifications with suppliers, monitoring transactions and following up on deviations to achieve accurate and timely execution
- Resolve short-term supply, delivery, and quality issues in collaboration with suppliers and internal stakeholders using established escalation and issue resolution processes to minimize operational disruptions
- Maintain accurate purchasing data, pricing, and lead times in procurement systems while adhering to documentation and data quality standards to ensure transparency and reliability
- Support changing operational demands from manufacturing, logistics, and planning functions by coordinating with relevant Business Unit interfaces to stabilize material flow
- Provide structured input on supplier delivery performance and recurring issues to sourcing or category management teams to support continuous improvement and corrective actions

What will convince us
- A degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Management, or a related discipline would be advantageous, although equivalent professional experience will also be considered
- Experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain operations, ideally within a fast-paced manufacturing, technical, or industrial environment
- Solid understanding of operational purchasing and transactional procurement processes
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and high transaction volumes with accuracy and attention to detail
- Proactive approach to problem-solving and a positive attitude when dealing with challenges and changing priorities
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across functions
- Experience using SAP or other ERP/MRP systems would be beneficial
- Strong Excel skills with the ability to analyse and manage purchasing data
- CIPS qualification or working towards CIPS certification would be advantageous
- In order to commence working with us, the successful candidate will have the right to work in the UK.
