Purchasing & Stores Controller | Telford | Office Based | Permanent | 08:00-16:00 | Full Time Hours | Competitive Salary + Benefits Package
Seymour John are currently recruiting for a Purchasing & Stores Controller on behalf of a well-established organisation in Telford. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and hands-on individual with experience across purchasing, stores or warehouse operations who enjoys working in a varied and fast-paced environment.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you will play a key role in ensuring materials, components and stock are available when needed to support engineering and workshop operations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the purchasing process, placing orders with suppliers and monitoring deliveries to ensure materials arrive on time
- Building strong relationships with suppliers and acting as the main point of contact for order updates, queries and delivery schedules
- Overseeing the day-to-day running of the stores function, ensuring stock is accurately received, stored and issued
- Maintaining stock levels and proactively reordering key consumables and materials to avoid shortages
- Investigating stock discrepancies and helping to improve stock accuracy across the business
- Coordinating deliveries, returns and shipments, including arranging transportation for both UK and international consignments
- Working closely with engineering, production and workshop teams to ensure materials and components are available when required
- Producing stock reports and maintaining accurate system information to support operational decision-making
- Supporting continuous improvement initiatives across purchasing, stores and inventory management processes
- Helping to maintain a safe, organised and efficient working environment

Personal Profile
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys combining purchasing responsibilities with practical, hands-on stores duties. You will be joining a collaborative working environment where accuracy, reliability and teamwork are highly valued. The role will involve working within stores and workshop areas, handling materials and occasionally driving a forklift truck or company vehicle. It therefore requires someone who is comfortable working in an active and varied environment.

We are looking for candidates to have:
- Previous experience within purchasing, stores, warehouse or stock control
- Confidence raising purchase orders and communicating with suppliers
- Strong attention to detail with a diligent and methodical approach
- Good IT skills, including working knowledge of Excel
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
- A proactive, hands-on attitude and the ability to work independently
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- A full UK driving licence
- Forklift truck experience
