Job Title: Python Developer (Contract, Hybrid)
Job Description
Overview
We are seeking a Python Developer to join a high-performing regulatory technology team within a leading investment bank. The successful candidate will design and develop scalable solutions supporting regulatory reporting platforms, ensuring compliance with evolving financial regulations while processing high volumes of transaction data.
This role combines hands-on software engineering, data analysis, platform enhancement, and close collaboration with regulatory and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain enterprise-grade Python applications supporting regulatory reporting and compliance functions.
- Partner with Business Analysts, Compliance teams and Transaction Reporting SMEs to translate complex regulatory requirements into technical solutions.
- Build highly scalable data processing pipelines capable of handling millions of daily financial transactions.
- Conduct detailed data analysis, investigations, and root-cause assessments relating to reporting breaches and regulatory inquiries.
- Develop reconciliation and validation frameworks to ensure reporting accuracy and data integrity.
- Support remediation initiatives through the design of historical replay and data reconstruction capabilities.
- Drive system enhancements focused on performance, reliability, auditability and operational resilience.
- Manage and support software releases through the full development lifecycle, including testing, deployment and production support.
- Collaborate with cross-functional technology teams to deliver regulatory change programmes and strategic platform improvements.
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong commercial Experience developing applications in Python.
- Proven Experience within investment banking, capital markets or financial services environments.
- Experience building scalable, high-volume data processing solutions.
- Strong understanding of transaction processing, financial data flows and regulatory reporting systems.
- Experience developing APIs and web applications using Flask or similar Python frameworks.
- Advanced SQL and database development Experience, ideally with Oracle Database.
- Strong data analysis and manipulation skills using Pandas.
- Experience developing reconciliation, validation or control frameworks.
- Knowledge of software engineering best practices, CI/CD and release management.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with Experience working directly with business and regulatory reporting teams.

Desirable Experience
- Experience with transaction reporting regulations such as MiFID II, EMIR, SFTR, or similar.
- Experience with Elasticsearch.
- Knowledge of event-driven architectures and data replay/reprocessing frameworks.
- Experience with scheduling and orchestration tools such as Quartz.
- Exposure to regulatory remediation programmes and audit-driven development practices.
- Understanding of parallel processing and distributed computing techniques.
