Python Software Engineer | Trading Technology Start-up | £100,000 + 15% Minimum Bonus | London, Tower Bridge (Hybrid)

Python Software Engineer needed for a fast-growing trading technology start-up that's building the platform brokers and traders rely on to manage client communication, market data, and real-time trading intelligence, all on one database. This is a high-impact hire, joining a small, sharp engineering team building new platforms from the ground up, with genuine input into technical direction from day one.

The business was founded to solve a very manual problem. Brokers and traders spend a lot of time managing client communication across various channels such as spreadsheets, calls, WhatsApp, and email. What started as a single database to centralise this has grown into a live platform that pulls in communications, market data, and stock notifications, giving traders real-time intelligence on when to act.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Late last year, the business was acquired by a listed, global shipping and trading services group. This has given it backing, resources, and access to bonus pools of a much larger organisation, while continuing to operate independently under its own brand and leadership.

Responsibilities

As a Python Software Engineer, you'll work across the platform's backend, building with relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQLite, MySQL), and owning features end-to-end. This includes, but is not limited to, design and build through to testing and deployment. You'll work closely with the CEO and senior engineering, as well as directly with traders and clients to shape the product. This is a genuinely hands-on, SaaS engineering role in a business with a strong commodities and trading market focus.

Requirements

  • Strong Python recent experience essential
  • Solid experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQLite, MySQL)
  • Proven end-to-end experience: building, testing, and shipping features across the full software development lifecycle
  • Experience in a SaaS / software-as-a-service environment
  • Strong preference for candidates with a background in commodities, fintech, financial trading, or banking — smaller fintech experience is a plus
  • Comfortable working directly with clients to inform product development
  • Computer Science degree desirable but not essential
