About The Role

We are seeking a talented Python Developer / Backend Software Engineer to join our dynamic team in Cirencester, with flexible remote working options. This is a senior, hands-on role focused on designing and developing greenfield, data-centric applications that monitor Arctic ice flows and other scientific data points. You will work on innovative projects that combine machine learning, physics-based modeling, and geospatial image processing to deliver real-world impact on climate change, infrastructure, and global decision-making. Your responsibilities will include taking ownership of projects from conception to deployment, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and contributing to the development of an AI-powered intelligence platform that transforms satellite imagery into actionable insights for clients across government, defense, energy, and conservation sectors.

Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Python backend development, with experience in building scalable, data-driven applications.
  • Knowledge of geospatial or image processing technologies is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with AI tools such as Claude or similar platforms in an operational environment.
  • Previous experience in a start-up or small business environment, demonstrating agility and ownership of projects.
  • Degree in a STEM discipline such as Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or related fields.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to technical discussions and decision-making.
  • Additional skills in Ruby or related technologies are a plus but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services and applications that process and analyze geospatial and satellite imagery data.
  • Take ownership of Greenfield projects, from initial ideation through to deployment and ongoing enhancement.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, geospatial experts, and product teams to develop innovative solutions.
  • Implement machine learning models and physics-based algorithms to extract meaningful insights from complex datasets.
  • Optimize data pipelines and ensure the scalability, security, and reliability of applications.
  • Participate in technical discussions, code reviews, and decision-making processes to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and incorporate best practices into project workflows.
