Senior Python Backend Developer

📍 London, 3 days per week in office
💰 £80,000-£90,000 + Bonus
🐍 Python | Django | Flask | Pandas | APIs | Data Pipelines

A growing engineering team is looking for a Senior Python Backend Developer to join as the platform continues to scale following a number of new client wins. They’re looking for a strong software engineer first, someone who enjoys building backend applications and APIs, but is equally comfortable working with data-heavy systems, pipelines and calculation engines.

The successful engineer will join a small team where there is plenty of opportunity to influence how things are built. Initially, they’ll get hands-on with the existing platform before taking increasing ownership of features and technical components.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

They’ll be working across:

  • Core Python backend services and APIs
  • Django and Flask applications
  • Pandas and data-processing workflows
  • Data pipelines and calculation engines
  • Performance, scalability and reliability
  • Architecture, testing, observability and continuous delivery

The team is also looking to improve its approach to data orchestration, so experience with Airflow, ETL or similar tooling would be particularly useful.

This isn’t a pure Data Engineering or Big Data role. The sweet spot is a strong generalist Python engineer who has built production software and is comfortable solving data-heavy backend problems.

They’d ideally like someone who has worked within a startup or scale-up environment, enjoys ownership and is comfortable operating without layers of product or management around them. There is also scope over time to take on broader technical ownership, planning or people leadership.
