About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Platform DevOps Engineer to join a major public-sector technology initiative supporting UK immigration, visa, passport, and related services. This role is pivotal in developing and maintaining backend systems, automation tools, microservices, and APIs within a large-scale cloud-based platform. The successful candidate will operate as a SFIA Level 5 Python and Go engineer, focusing on automating infrastructure, integrating with AWS services, and managing enterprise platforms such as Kubernetes, HashiCorp Vault, LDAP, JIRA, and Confluence. This position requires active SC clearance and is suited for professionals who thrive in a collaborative, agile environment and are passionate about delivering secure, scalable, and efficient technological solutions.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess current active SC clearance and meet the following qualifications:
- Extensive experience in commercial Python development, including building backend systems, automation tooling, microservices, and APIs.
- Proficiency in Go programming, particularly in developing concurrent applications, CLI tools, and REST APIs.
- Strong knowledge of modern Python features such as asyncio, type hints, and context managers.
- Hands-on experience with AWS services, including EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and Lambda, using boto3 and aws-sdk-go-v2.
- Demonstrated ability to automate cloud resource management and infrastructure provisioning.
- Experience working with enterprise identity management systems like OpenLDAP and Active Directory.
- Proficiency in secure secrets management using HashiCorp Vault.
- Ability to automate workflows and processes within JIRA and Confluence.
- Experience with Kubernetes API for deployment automation, cluster management, and pod inspection.
- Strong testing background with Python (pytest, unittest) and Go (testing package), including mock generation and test coverage integration into CI pipelines.
- Advanced knowledge of Git workflows, branching strategies, code reviews, and release management.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, initiative, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- A passion for technology and a commitment to continuous learning and knowledge sharing.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for a broad range of technical tasks, including:
- Developing robust backend services, automation tools, microservices, and APIs using Python and Go.
- Building efficient, concurrent applications and command-line tools to support operational automation.
- Integrating applications with AWS services, automating cloud resource provisioning, and managing infrastructure as code.
- Managing AWS resources such as EC2, S3, IAM roles, and Lambda functions to ensure secure and scalable operations.
- Implementing secure credential management and role-based access controls using IAM and HashiCorp Vault.
- Automating identity and directory services integration with systems like OpenLDAP and Active Directory.
- Automating secrets retrieval and renewal processes to enhance security and compliance.
- Streamlining workflows across enterprise tools such as JIRA and Confluence, including automation of ticketing and documentation processes.
- Utilizing Kubernetes API for deployment automation, cluster management, and troubleshooting.
- Developing and executing comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and reliability.
- Incorporating code quality tools such as flake8, black, mypy, golangci-lint, and go vet into CI/CD pipelines.
- Participating in code reviews, branching, and release management to maintain high standards of software delivery.
- Sharing expertise and mentoring team members to enhance overall team capability and knowledge base.

Benefits
This role offers a competitive daily rate of up to 617.55 via UMB for a six-month contract, with potential for extension. Working remotely, you will contribute to a high-profile public-sector project that impacts critical national services.
