Senior Python Software Engineer

Bristol | Up to £75,000 + Stock Options | Hybrid – 3 days onsite

Most Python roles lead with the framework. This one starts with Linux.

I’m working with a growing B2B SaaS company in Bristol that is building a genuinely differentiated behavioural-science and media-planning platform.

They are hiring a Senior Python Software Engineer who can take ownership across the full technical lifecycle: shaping a solution, building it, deploying it and supporting it in production. This is not a narrow ticket-delivery role. You will have real influence over the architecture, engineering standards and future direction of the platform.

What you’ll be working on

  • Designing and building Python backend applications and APIs
  • Developing services using FastAPI
  • Supporting and troubleshooting Linux-based environments
  • Building data-processing, automation and ingestion workflows
  • Designing and maintaining SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Deploying containerised services across AWS
  • Improving testing, security, documentation and production reliability
  • Helping shape the engineering function as the company grows

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What they’re looking for

You will need strong commercial Python software-engineering experience across backend systems, APIs, automation or data processing.

Just as importantly, you must be genuinely comfortable working with Linux.

That means more than deploying a Docker container. You should be confident using Bash and the command line, connecting through SSH, investigating logs, managing services and processes, understanding permissions and troubleshooting networking or production issues.

Experience with most of the following would be highly relevant:

  • Python
  • FastAPI, Django or Flask
  • Linux and Bash
  • Docker and Docker Compose
  • AWS, ideally EC2, ECS, S3, DynamoDB, Cognito or IAM
  • PostgreSQL, SQLite or NoSQL databases
  • REST APIs and microservices
  • Testing, TDD and CI/CD
  • Data processing using CSV, JSON or Parquet

Experience with pandas, NumPy, GeoPandas, Terraform, MongoDB, DuckDB, HTMX or data visualisation would be useful but is not essential.

Why consider it?

  • Up to £75,000
  • Meaningful stock options
  • Genuine ownership of a core SaaS platform
  • Direct influence over technical decisions
  • Opportunity to help hire, mentor and shape the future team
  • A small, experienced environment without layers of bureaucracy
  • Three days per week with the team in Bristol

Previous management experience is not required. They are equally interested in a strong senior engineer who wants to grow into greater technical and leadership responsibility.

You must have unrestricted UK working rights, as sponsorship is not available.
