About The Role
Hays Technology is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Platform DevOps Engineer to join a major public-sector technology initiative. This role is integral to supporting a large-scale platform that revolutionizes UK immigration, visa, passport, and related services management. The successful candidate will be part of the Platform DevOps team, working at SFIA Level 5, focusing on backend development, automation, microservices, APIs, and cloud integrations. The role demands a proactive approach to developing and maintaining secure, efficient, and scalable systems within a cloud environment, primarily AWS, utilizing Python and Go programming languages. This is a remote contract position, offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to a transformative government project with a focus on innovation and operational excellence.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise, security clearance, and a proactive mindset. Essential qualifications include current active SC clearance, demonstrating eligibility for government-related projects. Candidates should have extensive experience in Python development, including building backend systems, automation tools, microservices, and APIs. Proficiency in Go programming, particularly in developing concurrent applications, CLI tools, and REST APIs, is required. Strong experience with AWS services such as EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and Lambda, alongside automation of cloud resource provisioning, is essential. Familiarity with enterprise directories like OpenLDAP and Active Directory, as well as secure secrets management using HashiCorp Vault, is necessary. Additional qualifications include experience automating processes within JIRA and Confluence, Kubernetes API management, and comprehensive testing skills using tools like pytest and gomock. Candidates should also demonstrate advanced Git skills, CI/CD pipeline experience, and knowledge of Python and Go quality tools.

Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend services, automation tools, microservices, and APIs primarily using Python and Go.
- Create efficient, scalable, and concurrent applications, services, and command-line tools to support platform operations.
- Integrate applications and automation workflows with AWS services such as EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, and Lambda, utilizing boto3 and aws-sdk-go-v2.
- Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning and resource management to enhance operational efficiency.
- Manage IAM roles, credentials, and secure integrations to ensure platform security and compliance.
- Integrate with enterprise directory services, including OpenLDAP and Active Directory, for authentication and authorization.
- Implement secret management solutions using HashiCorp Vault for secure storage and retrieval of sensitive data.
- Automate workflows related to JIRA and Confluence to streamline ticketing, documentation, and team collaboration processes.
- Utilize Kubernetes API for deployment automation, pod management, and cluster inspection to ensure high availability and scalability.
- Develop comprehensive unit and integration tests for Python and Go solutions, ensuring code quality and reliability.
- Incorporate code quality checks, linters, and testing into CI/CD pipelines to maintain high standards of software delivery.
- Participate in branching, code review, and release processes using Git, contributing to team knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to share knowledge, resolve issues, and enhance platform capabilities.
