Python/Django Software Engineer
Location: Remote, with 1 to 2 days a month in London
Rate: £500/day Outside IR35
Duration: 3 months initial
Sector: Central Government
Must be SC Cleared
Overview
We're looking for a Python/Django Software Engineer to join a central government programme. You'll build and improve digital services on AWS, working in a multidisciplinary team to deliver reliable, secure and user-focused software.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain web applications and APIs in Python and Django
- Develop and deploy services on AWS
- Write clean, well-tested and maintainable code
- Take part in code reviews and help raise engineering standards
- Work with product, design and delivery colleagues in an Agile team
- Support CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
- Troubleshoot and fix issues across development and live environments

Key Requirements
- Strong commercial experience with Python and Django
- Hands-on AWS experience covering services such as EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3 or ECS
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs
- Solid understanding of relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL
- Experience with automated testing and CI/CD
- Comfortable working in Agile delivery teams

Desirable
- Previous central government or public sector experience
- Knowledge of the GDS Service Standard and GOV.UK Design System
- Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation
- Docker and containerised deployments
