Principal Software Engineer
📍 Remote (Midlands, UK) | Occasional travel to UK sites
💰 £80,000 - £100,000
A UK-based technology-led aviation company is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to own both airborne software architecture and AWS cloud infrastructure, including end-to-end cybersecurity aligned to Secure by Design principles.
This is a hands-on role building high-quality, mission-critical software in a highly regulated environment. You'll take ownership from design through to delivery and support, contribute to team standards, and grow your technical influence while solving genuinely complex, real-world problems.

What you'll be doing
- Designing, building, and maintaining scalable applications using Python and React.
- Developing Progressive Web Apps with React, Flask, and Python backends.
- Building and integrating REST APIs and contributing to event-driven, microservices-based systems.
- Troubleshooting across business and aviation systems and owning resolution.
- Applying resilience patterns, observability, and secure development practices, and deploying through CI/CD pipelines.
What we're looking for
- A proven track record owning software delivery from inception to production.
- Strong skills in Python, JavaScript (React), Docker, and AWS (EC2, Lambda, CloudWatch).
- Working knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB).
- Solid grounding in software engineering fundamentals, Linux environments, Git workflows, and automated testing.
- Experience with SDLC and traceability approaches (Agile, V-model, DOORS).
